I’m truly blessed to be living in a country where we worry so much about and try to protect our kids from growing up with the wrong impression of something that could be seen as racism where in other countries, kids worry about surviving.
Just to mention, I did dress up as a “pepparkaksgumma”, gingerbread lady, as a kid. Maybe it was because I had a slightly darker skin-tone than the other kids and it suited me better. But at least I didn’t have to dress up in anything that could look similar to the Ku Klux Klan, and that was probably because of my gender. They’re called “stjärngossar” btw. However, through the years I also dressed as an elf, “luciatärna” and Lucia. I really hope that’s still how it works, that the kids get to dress up in the character they want and are free to alternate from year to year. Please don’t mess with Swedish Christmas traditions too much and try to focus on real problems instead.
